PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
***Maverick Ski Team program fees cover coaching costs, team jacket rental, athlete evaluations and feedback, fall dryland training, participation in the end of season race at Maverick, the opportunity to use race equipment, and informational meetings. Program fees do not include lift tickets or US Ski and Snowboard Membership costs.
- Athletes must become US Ski and Snowboard members to participate in all ski team programs for insurance purposes. Purchase your athlete’s US Ski and Snowboard membership by going to ussa.org and click on Membership. Athletes who do not want to race should select the ‘alpine, general’ membership category. Racers will need to purchase “alpine competitor” memberships appropriate for their age. Select the ‘Northern Division’ and ‘PMEF’ as the club when registering.
- Several years of Little Skiers or other prior ski instruction is required as participants in all programs must be able to:
- Put on their own boots and skis
- Ski with poles
- Easily navigate blue (intermediate) terrain, and be able to ski black (expert) terrain.
- Load and unload from the chairlift without assistance.
- If athletes are unable to perform the above actions after the first day of instruction, we will ask that you enroll in Jaycee Little Skiers and offer a refund.
- All participants are required to wear a helmet at all times. A liability waiver must be signed during the registration process.
- Code of Conduct: Involvement in the Maverick Ski Team requires a commitment to meeting the following expectations by both athletes and their parents/families: commitment to learning, acting with integrity, and contributing to a supportive team environment. Athletes not meeting these expectations may face disciplinary action, up to suspension and/or removal from the program.
- Athletes are responsible for transportation to and from the mountain, as well as providing their own lunch.
- We have a collection of boots, skis, poles, race suits, and helmets available for use, but sizes are limited.

Race Program
Program Dates: Sundays, January 5-February 23 +3 Additional Training/Race Days: Saturdays, Jan 11, Jan 18, and Feb 22
9:30 – 3:30 (1-hour lunch on own)
Ages 10-17 Cost:$500
For athletes interested in competing in Northern Division ski races, the Race Program builds upon the skills learned in the Development Program. Race athletes will spend more time training for races using drills and gate training. Program cost includes 8 Sundays, 3 additional training days on Saturdays. Attendance at races will be an additional fee depending on the length and location of the race.
Training Days include:
- Saturdays : Jan 11, Jan 18, and Feb 22
- Sundays: Jan 5 through Feb 23
Race Events may include:
- Whitefish YSL Race: Feb 22-23
- Bridger Bowl YSL Race: March 01-02
- Terry Peak YSL Race: March 14-16
Additional costs, including a competitor’s USSA membership, lift tickets, lunch on training & race days, lodging, and race registration fees will be the responsibility of the athlete. All participants are required to wear a helmet at all times.
Development Program
Development Program: Full-Day
Cost: $300
Program Dates: Sundays, January 5th-February 22nd Ages 7-17
9:30-2:30 (1-hour lunch)
This 8-week program encourages children to grow their all-mountain skills and become introduced to the fundamentals of alpine ski racing. Athletes will engage in skill progressions from the United States Ski Association athlete development program, as well as spend time free skiing all terrain at Maverick. A limited introduction to racing techniques and tactics will be incorporated to prepare athletes for the Maverick Challenge Race (March 1st/2nd) to culminate the season. Athletes will also need to purchase a US Ski and Snowboard General Membership. The deadline for registering for the development program is December 27th, or when registration has been filled.
All participants are required to wear a helmet at all times.
