The Pioneer Mountain Education Foundation is a non-profit business and US Ski and Snowboard registered club that is separate from Maverick Mountain. The primary difference between the Maverick Ski Team and Maverick Ski School is the emphasis on developing racing techniques through the use of US Ski Association drill progressions. Specifically, Maverick Ski team athletes will spend time on tactics for navigating a course, which could be established with snow brushes, stubby gates, and tall gates. The amount of time spent in gates is dependent upon the athlete’s age and skill level. Finally, in order for an athlete to participate in PMEF ski team programs or compete in Northern Division Races, he or she must be a registered member of US Ski/Snowboard.

If you are new to the ski team or do not have an interest in traveling to races in Montana, then the Development program should be a good fit. The Race Program will include coaching costs for traveling to 3 Youth Ski League races around Montana. Athletes in this program will have more time emphasized on racing tactics and experiences with slalom and giant slalom.
Yes! Attending one race is a good way to get a feel for the racing experience if you are not sure about committing to the race program. Please note that an additional daily coaching fee of $40 will need to be paid to PMEF for days outside of the Development Program Sundays. Additionally, you will need to purchase a US Ski & Snowboard Association short-term competitor type membership or upgrade to a Competitor license at least one week prior to the race.
The Northern Division is the regional group that PMEF belongs to. The region includes all U.S. Ski and Snowboard area clubs in Montana, as well as Terry Peak, SD.
